Welcome 2022 Festival Participants! So that we all have the chance to get to know each other before arrival in June, please introduce yourselves by posting the following:
Name and preferred pronouns
Current city/state/country/municipality
Your favorite non-musical hobby
Well, completely forgot to do this. Whoops.
I'm Patricia (she/her) and I'm from San Francisco. I originally grew up outside Chicago, but this is home now. I got entirely too into Dungeons and Dragons during the pandemic. (I see some gamers in here; if there's interest, I would totally be down to pack some dice and run a one-shot game during any downtime we have.)
I also wanted to say a quick musical thing, while there's a post open, because I'm not sure participants have the power to make a new one. Does anyone have a particularly tough or not-MIDI-renderable piece that they're planning on making demo recordings of the parts for? I'm hoping to put together some for mine once school gets out, but I can't quite hit some of the bass 2 notes, so if there's a baritone/bass out there who's doing the same thing and can't hit their soprano/alto notes I'd love to do a swap. (Note: I don't think anybody WANTS me to hit the highest soprano notes. But, technically speaking, I maybe can.)
Hi everyone, my name is hunter (he/him/his) and I'm excited to meet all of you! I'm originally from Orlando, Florida but I'm currently living in Bloomington, Indiana working on my Master's in Music Composition at the Jacobs School of Music. I am clearly in safe company to say that I'm a bit of a gamer; I also really enjoy hiking and am looking forward to exploring more of Southern California this summer!
Hi, I'm James! he/him is fine. I'm from Kansas City, Missouri and I'm currently in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. David Walters and I are both at LSU working on graduate degrees in choral conducting. Outside of music, I am a huge baseball fan and I also play some video games.
I haven't played any Half-Life, but I did get a PSVR a few months ago!
Hi everyone, nice to e-meet you all! My name is Cooper Baldwin (he/him/his) and I'm currently living in New York City. Outside of music, I'm a pretty avid gamer (been super into VR recently. Anyone played Half Life: Alyx? It's tremendous!) and theme park fanatic. Excited to be a part of this and look forward to getting to know all of you and your music this summer! Cheers.
Hey everyone!! My name is Sammy Strent (he/him), and I'm currently studying Music Theory and Composition at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. I am originally from Bethesda, Maryland. Outside of music I love road trips as well as playing and watching hockey! I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone this upcoming summer!
Oh hello! I'm Mickey (he/him/his) and I'm currently living in Akron, OH with my fiance. I graduate next month with my M.M. Choral Conducting after studying under Dr. Marie Bucoy-Calavan. Besides music, I started running last year and really love it, and I'm a gamer as well (anyone else playing Elden Ring right now?) I also adore my two black cats Twilight and Piper.
Hello everyone! My name is Frank (he/him/his), and I am a Southern California/Orange County native (Santa Ana). I currently live in The Mitten (Michigan) and go to Michigan State University as a DMA student. My favorite non-musical hobby is learning languages.
Hey everyone! I'm Laura (she/they). I'm originally from South Carolina, but am in my fourth year of living in Boston. When I'm not doing anything musical, I enjoy hanging out with my dog (Jim) and cat (Owen).
Hey y'all! I'm Ethan (he/him/his). I'm a composer and singer currently based in Miami, Florida. Last spring I graduated from my BM in Composition from Florida State University and I'll be heading to Rice University for my MM this coming fall. I also take adult ballet class every so often just for fun :)
Can't wait to see some of your designs!
Hello Friends! My name is Art Tapia-Minchez (he/him/his), looking forward to meeting y'all and working together! I currently reside in San Bernardino, CA (with plans to move to the Orange County area for my first semester at Cal State Fullerton). I'd say that one of my non-music hobbies is design and drawing; it helps me relax and express myself in a different medium than music.
Hi everyone! I'm Andrew Sanchez (he/him/his). Super stoked to experience this with all of you! I'm currently residing in southeast NC. When I'm not doing music stuff, I love to hike and hang out with my doggos and wife. And when I'm not doing stuff outside, I'm all about some video games. Can't wait to meet yall!
Hello everyone! My name is Brandon (he/him/his) and I'm the artistic director of Choral Arts Initiative. You are joining us during a special time this summer as it is our culminating event as part of our 10th season! I currently reside in Southern California and my favorite non-musical hobby is hiking!
